Legends, Legacy, and Local Flavor: An Evening to Remember at IPAMA

The Institute for the preservation of african american music and arts (IPAMA) recently served as the perfect, welcoming backdrop for a truly historic gathering. On a night defined by community pride and reflection, Super Bowl legends Leroy Butler, Antonio Freeman, and Mike Barber came together to celebrate ahead of their formal recognition by the Milwaukee Times.

The atmosphere was electric, blending the grit of gridiron history with the soul of Milwaukee’s future.

A Taste of What’s to Come

Adding a delicious layer to the evening, guests were treated to a specialized "sneak peak" of appetizers from Nino’s Southern Sides. As Nino’s prepares for its highly anticipated Fox Point expansion, the legends and attendees got a first taste of the comfort and culinary excellence that has made them a local staple. It was the perfect fuel for an evening of deep conversation.

Stories of Trouble and Triumph

The highlight for many was the raw, personal dialogue. Butler, and Freeman, didn't just talk about Super Bowl rings; they shared intimate stories of trouble and triumph. From the hurdles of their early careers to the heights of NFL glory, their messages resonated with the  mission we champion—reminding us that the path to success is rarely a straight line, but always worth the journey.

Art Meets Impact: The Fellowship Open Legends

Perhaps the most unique moment of the night was the public unveiling of the Fellowship Open Legends sculptures. For the first time, the community was invited to observe these remarkable tributes to the men and women who have shaped our city's leadership and character.

Among the 25 legends honored in this collection is, of course, Leroy Butler himself. These sculptures are the breathtaking work of world-renowned artist Aaron Paskins. Known for his ability to capture both the physical likeness and the spiritual essence of his subjects, Paskins’ work brought an air of permanence and prestige to the venue.
